The Industrial Relations Society of Tasmania (IRST) is offering two grants to early career industrial relations practitioners who are interested in attending the biennial Australian Labour and Employment Relations Association (ALERA) National Conference.

The Conference will be held on 15 and 16 October 2021 at Novotel Melbourne. Further information can be found at

ALERA is an independent, non­partisan association which encourages research, discussion and debate on a wide range of issues affecting employment relations.

ALERA is governed by an Executive Committee of representatives from its affiliated State and Territory societies, including IRST.


The purpose of the grants is to support people who have an interest in industrial relations and would like to attend the ALERA conference to hear and learn from an exciting program of international and national experts.


The grant will provide $495 (50% of registration fees) towards the cost of conference registration. There are two grants available.


Applicants must be:

  • Current members of IRST;
  • Working in industrial relations or human resources;
  • Be employed in any sector or organisation/union;
  • Must have a demonstrated interest and/or potential for development in industrial relations.
